For one night, our house became a haunted estate. There was a pumpkin DJ in the garage, skeleton chefs on tacos, and a bartender with no pulse.

He runs the bar. He has a beard, glasses, a flannel and an apron. His eyes light up and he pitches cocktails to anyone who walks by.

He works for free. He does not take breaks. He has not asked for a night off.

Capsule in, button pressed, cocktail out. The shaker makes it look like somebody back there knows what they are doing.

The second machine, because one felt understaffed. Same idea. Capsule in, lid down, drink made.

The skeleton recommends all of them. He recommends whatever you point at.

The portrait wall is a trivia game. Kids played for a chicken nugget Fuggler. Adults played for a Hearth Display family calendar.

Nothing says Halloween like finally knowing what everyone is doing on Thursday.
